“Clueless” Describes Our Entire Intelligence Apparatus.

RealClearPolitics – Video – Napolitano Most Surprised By “Determination Of al-Qaeda”

Question: What was the most shocking, stunning thing that you found out of the review? And, Secretary, to you, as well.SECRETARY NAPOLITANO: I think, following up on that, not just the determination of al Qaeda and al Qaeda Arabian Peninsula, but the tactic of using an individual to foment an attack, as opposed to a large conspiracy or a multi-person conspiracy such as we saw in 9/11, that is something that affects intelligence.

You mean that the tactic of the “suicide bomber” surprised them?

I guess that’s not too surpising when you consider that our inteeligence agencies were taken by surprise by the the Iranian Revolution, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the rise of Hugo Chavez, pretty much anything the North Koreans do, the first WTC bombing, the embassy bombings, the USS Cole, Khobar Towers, 9/11, the lack of WMD in Iraq, the Iraqi resistance,…..pretty much any important development in the world in the past 50 years.

So, they didn’t see this coming? It probably would have been more surprising if they had.

More Butt Covering?

Hot Air » Newsweek: Saudis briefed top Obama official about “underwear bombers” in October; Update: MI5 knew of bomber three years ago

You can always spot things after the fact that should have given the whole thing away.

But so many, eight years after 9/11?

Even if you’re inclined to blame Bush, the election was over a year ago and Obama has been in office for almost a year.

Yeah, I know about the economy, the bailouts and unemployment. But all administrations have to be able to walk and chew gum. In fact, that was one of the selling points with Obama.

That’s the reason you have Cabinet Members and Under-secretaries, to insure that the bureaucrat drones are doing what they’re supposed to be doing. Wasn’t that the whole point of the DHS and the National Director of Intelligence? Or was that just a butt-covering excuse to hire more bureaucratic drones to beef up the Public Employees Unions>

Geez Obama, it is part of your job to pick subordinates that insure follow through on your policies. Another part, which you obviously knew during the campaign, was to appear to be paying attention and assuring the public. That was a lesson that GWB and his staff never got. Reagan and Clinton did. They both knew when to bite a lip, shed a tear or stand up and ask for one for the Gipper.

Shit like this is gonna happen. What you gotta do is make sure that the failures are few and not the result of poor priorities.

Right now it’s 9/11 all over again. Same old failures, same old excuses and same old answers.

Just wait, there’s going to be another commission, another investigation and it will be discovered that there needs to be more bureaucracy, more lines, more restrictions on the public, but no matter what, no “profiling”.

It’s deja vue all over again.
