Hosts and Parasites

When I read news stories of the government’s (State and Fed) attempt to “create” jobs by funding public works and protecting the jobs of government workers, I have to shake my head in disbelief. Do they really thing that they (the government) have a back room full of jobs that they hand out to people?

The truth, of course, is that they do and they don’t. They don’t actually have jobs to hand out, but they do have the ability to encourage others to create jobs.

A Capitalist free economy, to paraphrase Winston Churchill, is the worst system for managing an economy, except for all the others.

A Free Market encourages people to innovate, take risks and is able to offer products where they are needed, at a “reasonable” price without employing unaccountable central planners. If someone in a free markets systems offers the wrong products to the wrong set of customers, at a  price they can’t afford, they lose.

The Free Market economy is the engine that makes America work.

What people seem to misunderstand is the relationship between the government and the Free Market.

The relationship is that of a parasite and the host. That is not necessarily a bad thing and it doesn’t mean that government employees are bloodsuckers. Our bodies contains many parasites, some of which are necessary for life.

The Private Sector is the host. It goes on and on, enriching some, beggaring others. The government is the parasite that is supposed to prevent the host from destroying itself with its own excesses. The government (the parasite) takes what is necessary to to do its job from the host.

The problem arises, not because the parasite exists, but because it takes too much from the host. In nature this manifests itself in anemia or other health problems. It is invariably weakens the host and can lead to death.

Think it can’t happen here?

When I was in Grade School back in the 1950’s I can remember being told (probably at one of those assemblies for Washington’s or Lincoln’s Birthday back when holidays were supposed to mean something) about the Voltaire quote that was supposed to have said  “I may disagree with what you say; but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. (Yeah, I know it is probably bogus, but that’s not the point)

The point is that we were having it smacked into our mushy impressionable brains that in America the right to free speech included speech that you didn’t like.

Now we have “Hate Speech”, which is basically speech that some victim group or politician decided that they didn’t like.

How far is that from defending to the death your right to speak? We, our parents and our teachers thought that such a thing couldn’t happen here. But it did and it has.

Think of how many things that American’s used to believe was their heritage that are now discounted and reframed as somehow illegitimate?

The parasite is now in charge and we’re being reduced from patriots to husks that still mumble the words but have been so weakened that there is little time left to react, and even if we do, the poison is in our bloodstream .

Can we be saved? Maybe…maybe not. Time will tell.

The government is getting some help in gutting the Private Sector…Unions.

Documentary peeks at Fidel Castro’s human side

A longtime island resident married to a Cuban, Bravo made the 91-minute-long, sympathetic documentary “Fidel: The Untold Story” in 2001. For that film, she interviewed Hollywood stars, American authors and political leaders who had met Castro, as well as Cuban government and military leaders and those who knew Castro as a child.

Looks Like The Kind Of Relationship That Politicians and Lobbyists Have

Blackwater Guards Tied to Secret Raids by the C.I.A. – NYTimes.com

WASHINGTON — Private security guards from Blackwater Worldwide participated in some of the C.I.A.’s most sensitive activities — clandestine raids with agency officers against people suspected of being insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan and the transporting of detainees, according to former company employees and intelligence officials.

[…]

Several former Blackwater guards said that their involvement in the operations became so routine that the lines supposedly dividing the Central Intelligence Agency, the military and Blackwater became blurred. Instead of simply providing security for C.I.A. officers, they say, Blackwater personnel at times became partners in missions to capture or kill militants in Iraq and Afghanistan, a practice that raises questions about the use of guns for hire on the battlefield.

Is this another attempt to delegitimatize Blackwater yet again, another attempt to conjure up reasons to prosecute CIA as enemies of the State, or is it just another smokescreen to keep from reporting that ACORN has been caught with their pants down again?

Probably some of each. Blackwater staff is mostly retired U.S. Military personnel, including Special Ops people and the NYT editorial board hates military people. They often complain about the close relationship between Blackwater and the CIA on the weekend around the pool at their Hamptons estates.

They also hate the CIA. Not the Valerie Plame, Leon Panetta CIA, but the part that goes out and does the risky business of gathering info and running up covert ops. They have hated Covert Op people since the CIA exploding cigar failed to kill Castro for JFK. (That was before they discovered that Fidel was one on the great humanitarians of the century.)

And they need to come up with stories that take up space and draw attention to the fact that, not only were they caught suppressing the ACORN under-aged illegal immigrant prostitute story, but they are determinedly trying not to report that fact that ACORN illegally dumped the private financial records of thousands of people after being tipped off by the California AG that they were going to be raided the next day.

ACORN is one of the groups that seems to have the same relationship with the Democrat Party that Blackwater has with the CIA.

Interesting? That’s An Understatement.

Hacked: Sensitive Documents Lifted from Hadley Climate Center – Environmental Capital – WSJ

Well, this should get interesting. The Hadley Climate Research Unit in Britain was hacked yesterday, apparently by Russian black hats, and thousands of sensitive documents, including emails from climate scientists dating back a decade, were posted online. [snip]

Officials at Hadley, a leading global-warming research center, have apparently confirmed to an Australian a Kiwi publication that the documents are genuine.

The whole affair has much of the blogosphere alight. Blogs skeptical of man-made global warming see blood in the water.

Some of the old emails from scientists made public apparently make references to things like “hid[ing] the decline,” referring to global temperature series and different ways to slice and dice climate data.

In all, it seems there are more than 3,000 files in the hacked folders, which have been reposted in various places on the Internet.

The big Copenhagen summit had lost a lot of its appeal in recent days, as world leaders kept dialing down expectations for the climate talks. Maybe this will spice things up.

Wow. Between this and the new ACORN tapes there is a lot of potential to upset a bunch of apple-carts.

But notice that it is Friday, the traditional day for news which is destined to be buried. The Sunday shows are either going to be fireworks or they may just ignore it. It wouldn’t be the first time.

There’s a lot of very lucrative rice bowls at stake here.

Damage control is quick off the mark.

Hacked E-Mail Is New Fodder for Climate Dispute – NYTimes.com

The evidence pointing to a growing human contribution to global warming is so widely accepted that the hacked material is unlikely to erode the overall argument. However, the documents will undoubtedly raise questions about the quality of research on some specific questions and the actions of some scientists.

I don’t understand. How can files showing that the ‘scientists’ fudged the research on AGW NOT erode the theory?

These Kids Really NEED An Education

Protesters gather at UCLA to oppose UC fee hike

About 30 to 50 protesters staged a takeover of Campbell Hall, a building across campus that houses ethnic studies, said UCLA spokesman Phil Hampton.

They chained the doors shut but were peaceful and there were no immediate plans to remove them, Hampton said.

No arrests had been made, although 14 demonstrators were arrested on Wednesday and cited for failure to disperse or disturbing the peace.

OMG, it’s hilarious. Of all the building to take over I can’t think of one that is less critical than the “ethnic studies” building.

Don’t they know that “ethnic studies” is code for “welfare degree”. Is there a huge “ethnic studies” industry that is clamoring for workers? Did anyone win the Nobel Prize for Ethnic Studies this year? (Obama doesn’t count)

“Ethnic Studies” could be totally eliminated without affecting the education of anyone except maybe a few football players and other “must pass” boneheads. Think of all the money they would save. That might reduce or eliminate the fee increase.

Obviously critical thinking is not a strong suit among UC students.

Obama’s Transportation Secretary gives a straight answer — the seventh time he’s asked | Washington Examiner

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood had to be asked the same question seven times in Friday’s House Budget Committee hearing before he would finally give a straight answer.

Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., was grilling LaHood about a letter he had sent Arizona’s governor, after an Arizona Republican senator questioned the effectiveness of the stimulus package. The letter was widely viewed as a political threat in retaliation for criticism of the stimulus.

On July 12, Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., had suggested in a television interview that the stimulus should be cancelled, with the remaining unspent funds returned to the Treasury. LaHood, a former Republican member of Congress who joined Obama’s administration in January, responded the following day with a letter to Arizona’s Republican governor, Jan Brewer, effectively threatening to cut off some $521 million in Arizona projects funded by the stimulus package.

It doesn’t say whether LaHood was wearing a fedora and knocked some bottles off the counter when he said that.

He is an Illinois Republican. so he has no problem with the Chicago style of the Obama administration.

Yeah, And He Made It.

Towing Gresham police car was a mistake, defendant says

Tow-truck driver Steven Gerald Syverson told a long and convoluted story in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Wednesday to explain how he managed to pick up a Gresham police car by mistake.

What’s interesting about this story is not how dumb Syverson is. It’s how dumb he thinks everyone else is.

The Hottest New “Collectible.”

This is bigger than Barbie

Last week, U.S. District Judge Stephen Larson issued what may be the first legal opinion ever to interest America’s 8-year-old girls. He ordered a halt to all sales of Bratz dolls.

What this means is the Bratz dolls are on the road to becoming next years hot collectible.

So head for your daughter’s room and grab all her Bratz dolls now. Stick them in a box somewhere and wait for the priced to skyrocket. People may not have money for the mortgage or their credit cards. But theyre’s always money for “collectibles.”

Oh, How Brave She Is.

White House nixes Seattle artist’s ornament

WASHINGTON (AP) – ‘Tis not the season to post calls for impeachment on the White House Christmas tree.A spokeswoman for first lady Laura Bush said Tuesday that the tree will not include an ornament by a Seattle artist that supports President Bush’s impeachment.

Artist Deborah Lawrence said she wanted to salute Democratic Rep. Jim McDermott of Seattle, a longtime Bush foe who backs impeachment.

The nine-inch ball Lawrence created is covered with swirly red and white stripes and features a picture of McDermott. Tiny glued-on text hails the impeachment resolution.

What an idiot! But I’m sure that she is going to be fawned over by the Seattle liberals. They’ll probably tell her how “brave” she is.

What’s McDermott done that’s so admirable anyhow? Violated laws on eavesdropping on telephone conversations? Or is that only evil when it’s done to terrorists? How about his support for Saddam? Is he so fond of authoritarianism? Or only anti-American authoritism?

McDermott’s office didn’t pick her? Sure they didn’t. They didn’t have to. No one can survive in the art world in Seattle unless they toe the party line. She made the ornament hoping to be rejected. If it were accepted she would be one of many. As it is she gets a lot of free publicity.

This only confirms my belief that most artists are lemmings.
