They’d Still Be Allowed To Hire Illegals, But Not Educated Legal Immigrants

Schumer’s Second Thoughts (Or: This Is Why Reading Legislation Before Voting Is a Good Idea) – Kathryn Jean Lopez – The Corner on National Review Online

The amendment to the stimulus bill, proposed by Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Chuck Grassley, D-Iowa, originally would have banned the visas for any company that received money from the Troubled Assets Relief Program, or TARP. A compromise lifted the ban, but companies will still be required to hire from the growing pool of laid-off American workers first. Advocates say that the mandate is so onerous that it will virtually stop banks from bringing foreign workers into the country.

But the Senate took out the provision requiring contractors doing work under the stimulus to check their employees through e-verify.

The Democrats are OK with uneducated illegal immigrants, it’s the educated, legal ones that they worry about.

Commenters

On the KGW Channel 8 in Portland’s website there is a comment who recently started showing up in the comments section to various news stories. He is very good.

He writes in the style of the extreme left commenter but if you read his comments closely they resemble Frank J’s “In My World” series which is one of the great satirical series of the Internet.

For example, here is the comment he left on a story regarding theĀ protestsĀ againsst Prop 8 in Portland.

Once again this site is overloaded with the Reich-Wing hate from the Judaic/Christian playbook sponsored by the RepubliKKKan monsters who were thankfully cashiered by the enlightened electorate on November 4th.

But then the joyous celebration stopped.

With the exception of Massachusetts and Connecticut, the rest of the country continues to elect the right people, but then does a 180 degree turn and rolls back the clock to the dark days of Jim Crow, Poll taxes, separate toilets and water fountains, and jingoistic patriotic Irving Berlin songs.

What will it take for these homophobic parasites to realize that marriage, as well as morality, is an individual choice fully recognized in our once beloved Constitution?

Only when we can stand proudly before the bar of United Nations approval, and realize that the institution of marriage, like every other racist and deluded idea held so highly by the Neo-Cons who regulate Christianity,is meant to be defined and shared among any person or group that wishes to partake,

If a transgendered person wants to marry him/herself- then who are these brutal Bush/Reagan plutocrats who dare attempt to force their bestial pious will on such a lovely person?

If three, four or eleven people regardless of sexual orientation, want to collectively marry each other, then the Newt Gingrich/Sean Hannity warped view of monogamy must stand aside and make room for the peaceful and beautiful future designed to be shared under the large and colorful rainbow tent of tolerance and diversity.

As I previously stated in other similar posts on this subject, the Courts of California once addressed this travesty by invalidating the RepubliKKKan forced ballot of 2000 where these myopic, merciless and bigoted citizens shamelessly voted 3-1 to cruelly define marriage as between one man and one woman.

I personally would think that such archaic and totalitarian ideas would have disappeared from our culture at the same time that JFK freed the slaves.

Now, covering itself again with disgrace, California, like their progressive brothers and sisters in Florida, pulled the lever once again to ban gay marriage and totally overturn what the Courts had once deemed unconstitutional.

Are we somehow to think that because the majority of voters choose something as immoral as banning gay marriage, that our courts are now rendered prostate and impotent?

It is the duty of the courts to legislate from the bench when the majority has clearly taken a pigheaded path that the members of the minority community don’t agree.

I can only continue to offer my daily chants to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in his retreat in far away Dharamsala, that he will provide the wisdom to President Obama to issue an Executive Order on January 20, 2009 which immediately terminates these notorious and discriminatory ballot measure such as we saw with California’s Measure 8.

What is really hilarious is how many other commenters take him at face value. It’s hard to satirze a bunch of nuts.

Here’s a link to his comments. I think Frank J ought to get him to write a column.

Hmmm, What Would This Mean?

More Oregon arrests end in deportation

The number of foreign-born criminals referred to immigration authorities soared in Oregon over the past year, spurred by increased enforcement and the case of an illegal immigrant who slipped through the cracks and murdered a 15-year-old girl.U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 7,345 people from Oregon, Washington and Alaska during the first nine months of the current federal fiscal year, which ends Sept 30.

That’s a 40 percent jump from the 5,256 people deported over the same period in 2007, according to Lorie Dankers, spokeswoman for ICE’s Northwest region.

Would this mean that more that illegal aliens are committing crimes in the United States? But I thought they were all supposed to be ordinary people that were looking for a better life?

About Time!

Bush orders contractors to check legal status of employees

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Bush has signed an executive order requiring contractors and others who do business with the federal government to make sure their employees can legally work in the U.S.

This is something that should have happend a long time ago.

Now it will be interesting to see if it is enforced. They ought to set up a ‘hot line’ for people to report illegals working on Federal projects. Now if we can get the State to do this too.

We Might Begin At Home. The Researcher’s Home’s That Is

State aid to immigrants lags, UO study says- OregonLive.com

Oregon is trailing other states in helping integrate its growing immigrant population, a new University of Oregon study shows.Between 1990 and 2000, the Latino population doubled in 21 of Oregon’s 36 counties. The total foreign-born population now makes up more than 10 percent of the state’s population. By 2020, Latinos are expected to compose about 30 percent of the state’s student population.

Yet, Oregon has not done enough to expand existing social services, promote language programs, improve school curriculums, curb work-site abuse and create local and state task forces, researchers say.

Well, because the research was done by UO it would make sense to examine the UO workplace and the neighborhoods where they live and make sure they are sufficiently diverse.

Another way to go would be to encourage more immigration from the non-Hispanic world. There is no reason that Latinos should benefit more than other ethnic groups simply because they come from corrupt, failed countries which are unable to care for their own people. If they all come here, who’s going to change things back home.

No, we need to cut down on the Hispanics and open our doors to more Asians, particularly educated Chinese and Indians. Right now they have to compete for those H2 visas in order to come here while the Latino’s just walk in across the border without having any credentials.

I’m sure that we could attract educated Asians, Africans and Eastern Europeans who would be willing to perform the skilled jobs available for much less money. Of course it goes without saying that government benefits should only be paid to workers who are here legally.

Then we can have programs to benefit skilled American workers who will no longer do those jobs.

But If You Burn A U.S. Flag, “It’s Only A Piece Of Cloth?”

Idaho student says teacher tossed his Mexican flag in trash

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) – A high school student says he may file a lawsuit against a physical education teacher who took a Mexican flag he had brought for Cinco de Mayo and put it in the garbage.Clint Straatman denies Froylan Camelo’s version of events but said he took the flag Monday because “white kids” might have hurt the 16-year- old. He said he put it in a garbage can because he had no place else to keep it.

Camelo said he was changing into gym clothes at Minico High School in Rupert when Straatman told him, “Give me the flag.”

“I said, ‘What’s the problem?'” Camelo, speaking in Spanish, told The Times-News of Twin Falls. “He said, ‘The problem is that we are in the United States and not in Mexico.’ He grabbed it from me. He threw the flag in the garbage can.”

He’s a high school student in the U.S. and the newspaper has to interview him in Spanish?

Why?

Uprising

Television: Dave Kopel & Glenn Reynolds on Uprising on NRO Weekend

The heroes of Uprising knew this instinctively. From the very beginning of the first episode, they are the ones who warn of the danger, and urge Jews to acquire weapons and fight, while the politicians and “wiser” heads preach prudence and collaboration. And throughout the series, guns, and the acquisition of guns, are portrayed in a positive light, as a means of self-defense and a sign of self-respect.

It reminds me of Winston Churchill’s famous exhortation.

Never give in–never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.e>

It Must Be A Contest To See Which City Is Loonier.

I’m not sure what the prize is supposed to be. But it appears as if Seattle and San Francisco are in a competition for the looniest city on the West Coast.

We have San Francisco proclaiming their Sanctuary City status and promising every illegal in North and South American that if they just make it to SF they will have it made. SF is not going to ask or tell their immigration status (I thought Liberals were against “don’t ask, don’t tell) and they will be showered with all the benefits that the SF Liberals think are basic “rights.” That will most likely include food, housing, medical care and schooling for their children. You know, the stuff everyone else has to work for.

On the other hand, we have Seattle. The King Co Executive is going to make approval of development projects contingent on their impact on “Glowball Warmening.”

This will have the obvious affect of driving up already high housing prices. That will give the King Co politicians a chance to lambast the “developers” for charging too much. There’s nothing that attracts the attention of politicians faster than the chance to get off some sound bite on the 6 o’clock news blaming someone for the results of policies that they themselves invoked.

At the same time the policy will have the affect of driving lower income people out of the area. Which is most likely what the politicians wanted in the first place. But that’s another “don’t ask, don’t tell” situation. No one is going to ask them and they’re certainly never going to admit it.

They know that most of the lower income people are minorities and illegals. But they can’t come out with policies that are obviously racist. So they get the same results by using “Glowball Warmening.”

Works every time.

The only reason I can think of for these two cities coming out with these loonie policies at the same time, is that there must be a competition. Maybe it’s some kind of wacky reality show.

What “Right” Is That?

ID rules strike fear in workers – OregonLive.com

Hundreds gathered for the noon rally. They packed the steps and spilled across the street onto the Capitol Mall, waving hand-drawn signs pleading to keep their right to drive.

Hmmm. “Right to drive”? Exactly where does this “right” come from? Is that one of the “inalienable rights” bestowed upon us by the Creator?

A “right to drive” is going to come as an awful shock to the environmentalists who want everyone (else) to stop driving. And imagine the shock to Thomas Jefferson who was probably not even aware that such a thing was possible.

Maybe this is a “right” they have in Mexico? If so, they can always return to Mexico to exercise it.

I know it’s illegal, but they have rights,” says Mauricio Laurrabaquio Lopez.

Interesting concept, having a “right” that allows you to do something illegal. Do we have the right to “trespass” on or “borrow” the property of others illegally?

If they really want to make a point that they’re here and are not going anywhere, what they should do is all show up at the ICE office and turn themselves in. That would likely bring the system to a screeching halt. Then, just to prove that we value “diversity” we should allow the same privileges to the citizens of the rest of the world that we extend to Hispanics. There’s no reason for excluding Asians, Africans, Arab and Eastern Europeans while extending preferences to Hispanics. It wouldn’t be “fair”
