This Has To Be The Most Orwellian Bunch Of Drivel I Have Heard In Years

Dutch Quaking Over Islam Film; Mass Violence Expected

Dutch diplomats are already trying to pre-empt international reaction. ‘It is difficult to anticipate the content of the film, but freedom of expression doesn’t mean the right to offend,’ said Maxime Verhagen, the Foreign Minister, who was in Madrid to attend the Alliance of Civilisations, an international forum aimed at reducing tensions between the Islamic world and the West. In Amsterdam, Rotterdam and other towns with large Muslim populations, imams say they have needed to ‘calm down’ growing anger in their communities.

If you consider the Muslims as “civilized” then it is we, not they who have been misunderstanding what it means to be “civilized”. We spout platitudes about “free speech” and “tolerance” teaching our children that such concepts are the foundation of civilized behavior.

The Muslims, however, claim to be civilized while denying that such principles apply in their world, teaching their children that Muslims are supposed to be above non-believers.

Which is it?

If we take them at their word, whenever we hear speech from the Islamic community that we find offensive, the “civilized” thing to do, is not to write articles and register protests, but to rampage through Muslim neighborhoods burning and killing. That is the “civilized” way. That is the way that Dutch Foreign Minister Verhagen things we should settle our differences.

We should not tolerate Muslims who think that their religion should be recognized and respected as superior by those who do not practice it. We should not allow Muslims to speak of bringing the world under Sharia.

If we hear such things, we should immediately attack the source and do whatever it takes to to redeem our honor, even if it means murder and mayhem.

After all, as the Minister points out, there is no right to express offensive opinions, even if you are a Muslim.

Dear Third World Farmer… | Samizdata.net

Thank you for trying to offer us high quality, low cost agricultural products. However I am sorry but we would prefer it if you remain dependent on tax funded handouts from First World governments and their anointed NGOs. And speaking of NGOs, if you People of Colour start getting involved in horrid global trade, what will happen to the people who work for NGOs? We need NGOs so that our children can go work for them in that pesky gap year, helping you poor ignorant dark people with your Third Worldie Problems, and thereby allowing our kiddies to develop self-esteem and feel good about themselves. Also we prefer to see you living in photogenic eco-friendly low carbon footprint mud huts, so please stop trying to pull yourself out of poverty via icky capitalist global trade in the one area you should have a comparative advantage. I say ‘should’ because actually we prefer to buy our food from tax subsidised local farmers, for the good of the planet, you understand.

Peace and love,

Janet Guardianista

Because it’s better to feel good about yourself than to actually help people.

Worse Than We Imagined.

iowahawk: Bylines of Brutality

A Denver newspaper columnist is arrested for stalking a story subject. In Cincinnati, a television reporter is arrested on charges of child molestation. A North Carolina newspaper reporter is arrested for harassing a local woman. A drunken Chicago Sun-Times columnist and editorial board member is arrested for wife beating. A Baltimore newspaper editor is arrested for threatening neighbors with a shotgun. In Florida, one TV reporter is arrested for DUI, while another is charged with carrying a gun into a high school. A Philadelphia news anchorwoman goes on a violent drunken rampage, assaulting a police officer. In England, a newspaper columnist is arrested for killing her elderly aunt.

Unrelated incidents, or mounting evidence of that America’s newsrooms have become a breeding ground for murderous, drunk, gun-wielding child molesters? Answers are elusive, but the ever-increasing toll of violent crimes committed by journalists has led some experts to warn that without programs for intensive mental health care, the nation faces a potential bloodbath at the hands of psychopathic media vets.

An eyeopening account of a problem that has been grossly under-reported.

We’re Going To Pay For What? Why?

Deal afoot to alter Klamath for users – OregonLive.com

Oregon would be asked to contribute lottery funds to help pay for the deal, according to the agreement. California and the U.S. Congress would have to chip in as much as $500 million in “new money” to the deal, with the remainder coming from money already being spent by the states and federal government on the basin.

Included in the agreement is a new 90,000-acre reservation for the Klamath Tribe in Klamath County, where the tribe once had ancestral lands. The tribe, like many other participants in the agreement, sought its own benefits in exchange for agreeing to the overall settlement.

A question for all parties. Members of the Klamath Tribes voted to accept termination of their tribe in return for cash payment from the U.S. Goverment. Are the parties reneging on the deal now? Isn’t this what we used to call, back in the insensative days, “Indian Giving”?

Of the 2,133 members of the Tribe on the final roll, 1,658 voted to withdraw and 77 elected to remain, while 398 didn’t vote in May 1958. Those who did not vote were added to the list of remaining members, except for Edison Chiloquin, who began a lengthy battle to get his own parcel of land instead of continuing to get per capita payments. Those who withdrew from the Tribe got about $43,000. In all, about $70 million was paid out in 1961.

Are the tribal members going to pay back that money now? Or does this mean that the people of the United States, having bought the land from the tribe once, now have to pay to replace the land they bought in 1961? If so, the $43,000 paid in 1961 is now $282,759.63 and $70 million is $460,306,381.20.

Before termination, Bureau of Indian Affairs officials and political activists who wanted Indians to be freed from the bonds of federal paternalism had told members of Congress that timber wealth made the Klamath Tribe ripe for termination. They said the Tribe could support itself on its own timber money.

Are the Klamath Tribes now arguing that they are in fact unable to care for themselves without the “Great White Father” and were stupid and gullible when they took the money and want the BIA back? Do they think this going to work out better than the present situation on most reservations where alcohol and drug abuse are rampant, and unemployment is the norm rather than the exception?

How Much Pork Do You Think This Will Generate?

TheHill.com – Hoyer says stimulus could be done in a month

The man in charge of running the House floor said Wednesday that Congress could pass a stimulus package to spur the slowing economy within a month.

We know that when Congress talks about “stimulus” what they mean is free money for their districts. I doubt that this will be any different.

We need to keep a close eye on this.

See What Happens If You’re Not A Politically Connected Democrat?

Sex case will cost officer his badge – OregonLive.com

Portland police Officer Jason K. Faulk, accused of having sex with a woman while he was on duty last summer, is expected to enter a guilty plea to one count of official misconduct in Multnomah County Circuit Court this morning and resign from the Police Bureau.

Faulk, a Central Precinct night shift officer, was placed on paid leave Sept. 11 after a woman, described by her lawyer as autistic and emotionally challenged, filed a complaint with police.

If he had only had the good sense to be a Democrat Mayor or be similarly connected to the Democrats he could have walked away and probably got a promotion out of it.

Well Said, Flash Harry. We’ll Miss You

The last testament of Flashman’s creator: How Britain has destroyed itself

It’s the present generation with their permissive society, their anything-goes philosophy, and their generally laid-back, inyerface attitude I feel sorry for.

They regard themselves as a completely liberated society when in fact they are less free than any generation since the Middle Ages.

Indeed, there may never have been such an enslaved generation, in thrall to hang-ups, taboos, restrictions and oppressions unknown to their ancestors (to say nothing of being neck-deep in debt, thanks to a moneylender’s economy).

We were freer by far 50 years ago – yes, even with conscription, censorship, direction of labour, rationing, and shortages of everything that nowadays is regarded as essential to enjoyment.

We still had liberty beyond modern understanding because we had other freedoms, the really important ones, that are denied to the youth of today.

We could say what we liked; they can’t. We were not subject to the aggressive pressure of specialinterest minority groups; they are. We had no worries about race or sexual orientation; they have. We could, and did, differ from fashionable opinion with impunity, and would have laughed PC to scorn, had our society been weak and stupid enough to let it exist.

We had available to us an education system, public and private, that was the envy of the world. We had little reason to fear being mugged or raped (killed in war, maybe, but that was an acceptable hazard).

Our children could play in street and country in safety. We had few problems with bullies because society knew how to deal with bullying and was not afraid to punish it in ways that would send today’s progressives into hysterics.

We did not know the stifling tyranny of a liberal establishment, determined to impose its views, and beginning to resemble George Orwell’s Ministry of Truth.

Above all, we knew who we were and we lived in the knowledge that certain values and standards held true, and that our country, with all its faults and need for reforms, was sound at heart.

Not any more. I find it difficult to identify a time when the country was as badly governed as it has been in the past 50 years.

Thank You, Al Gore

Inflation Rate Is Worst in 17 Years

WASHINGTON (AP) – Higher costs for energy and food last year pushed inflation up by the largest amount in 17 years, even though prices generally remained tame outside of those two areas. Meanwhile, industrial output was flat in December, more evidence of a significant slowdown in the economy.

This is sure to be blamed on Bush, if for no other reason that everything is blamed on Bush.

But if you look at what is causing the inflation it becomes clear that the price increases were brought to you, not by the President, but by the Environmental Lobby and their accomplices in the Congress.

It is the Environmental Lobby that prevents us from drilling for oil supplies within our own country, which forces us into more dependence on foreign sources. It is also the Environmental Lobby, who are heavily invested in the “alternative energy” industry, which is forcing the use of Ethanol in our fuel supply. This means that crops that used to be raised for food are now grown for fuel. This creates shortages which has the unsurprising effect of raising the food prices.

The Democrats, in their wisdom, following the Environmental Lobbies script, howl about the increased fuel prices and propose increased fuel taxes, though why the increased taxes will not cause the same inflation is unclear. The other thing is, a fuel tax is highly regressive. The poorer you are the the more of your income is going to go for fuel. The wealthy elite, who can afford the extra taxes, are the same ones that have the financial ability to go out and purchase one of those high priced hybrids or electrics reducing their fuel use.

The Democrats also claim that the increased fuel prices are not the result of decreased energy exploration, but are because of price “gouging” by the oil companies. Numerous investigations over the years have been unable to detect this, but it is an article of faith in “progressive” circles. Strangely enough, the “progressives” can never explain why these “alternative energy” sources are so expensive. It can’t be because of the short supply because if the law of supply and demand doesn’t apply to petroleum, there’s no reason to think it will apply anywhere else.

So if you want to know who is responsible for the highest inflation in 17 years, look no further than your local chapter of the NRDC or Sierra Club.
