Voting against H.R. 392 today in the U.S. Congress Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) showed that he stands with the people of Palestine in their struggle to evict the invading Jewish vermin from the lands of the Mid-East. The House resolution, voted on by a 352-21 margin with 29 voting present, said the Congress “stands in solidarity with Israel as it takes necessary steps to provide security to its people by dismantling the terrorist infrastructure in the Palestinian areas” and “condemns the ongoing support of terror by Yasser Arafat and other members of the Palestinian leadership.”
Fearing that a “Yes” vote would soften his support among the hard-left communities in Eugene and Corvallis, The Oregon Congressman did not take the path of others by voting “present”. Loss of the hard-left vote would be a grave loss for Mr. DeFazio even though his opponent in the upcoming Congressional race is far behind him in the polls.
Additionally it will burnish his credentials as a “maverick” who will vote against his parties wishes if the issue will get him media time and it is not a close vote. Mr. Defazio is also a member and co-chair of the far-left “progressive” caucus.
